Golfing info and theories

I am an avid reader of Boards and enjoy reading the tips and stories.

I find sometimes however if read too many tips and theories that they can mess with your head a little and can affect the swing. It got to a stage where I lacked confidence in my swing relating to speed, stance etc... I also noted I was getting very self conscious when playing, worrying that I was going to hit a bad shot and embarrassing myself so I went to the driving range to work on this and wondered how to regain confidence in my swing and find my tempo/mojo (as I was worried I was swinging too fast or hard).

I remembered a confidence training excerise for trusting people i.e. stand on a chair and falling backward toward some people, hence learning that you can trust people to have your back. I always thought this was a bit silly, but wondered if I could use it to trust my swing and find my tempo (mojo). So I then practiced swinging smoothly with my eyes shut and then swinging at the rubber tee with my eyes shut. I then struck at 5 golf balls with my eyes shut, visualising them in my mind and focusing on my swing and to my amazement I was able to hit all five of them. I walked away from the range feeling so over the moon happy knowing that there was nothing wrong with my swing and I could trust it.

The following day I went on a round of golf and found I was more relaxed and confident in my game and found I was enjoying the game more as I knew I could trust my swing and I learnt what my own natural tempo was and I could reproduce it every time. I found that I rarely duffed my shots (I think I duffed only once and that was in the sand) before the excerise I usually duffed 12 - 18 times a round and that was due to pressure.

    Hope this helps...

Should have mentioned that I hit the balls with my eyes shut. When I go to the driving range these days I do this as part of my warm up routine so to get my swing in the groove so to speak!!

I use the rest of the driving range practice to work on other stuff (mainly short game), but I find myself a lot more relaxed about my game then I used to be, which makes for a fantasic feeling!
