Hi anyone ever replaced the carpet in their caravan? Would a regular fitter do it or should a specialised caravan fitter be sought out?

All help appreciated. My tourer is a 16ft 4berth. Current carpet is a bit grubby so want to get it changed.

Do you have a fitted or loose carpet? If loose, just take the old carpet to a carpet shop as a template and pick out an end of roll and get them to cut it to shape and edge it. If its a fitted carpet, I'm not sure what the best solution would be.

I would remove the old carpet and bring it to a carpet shop as previously suggested. Have them cut to shape and edge bind nicely. Then bring it back and put it down with heavy duty double sided tape. You will save some money on the fitting and it will look nicer/more professional with the edges bound.

Wouldnt argue with the above, no such thing as a specialist I'd say, carpet is carpet, ok it would be an awkward job but the principles are the same.

I put down fairly good laminate flooring on top of the old carpet, works well (kids, mess, youghurt, mud) but, in retrospect, could probably have done without the weight so if I was doing it again I'd use lino (lino has come a long way since the days of granny's back kitchen... some decent stuff going that looks quite well).

    Hey garden_snapper,

just seen this thread now, i'm a carpet fitter by trade, a template is probably not the best thing to do as the people in the shops are generally sales people, not fitters. best thing to do is get it fitted if you want it looking right.

    cheers,
    Gareth
