Hi guys, well my car was stolen on friday and I did the whole lot went to the gardai, informed the insurance ect.. and I have everything on the vehicle tax, insurance, nct ect ect...

Thing is the insurance (axa) are sending out an investigator? He rang me and told me he will be here tomorrow, I mean the car is only got 6 days like am I to assume by this that they don't think the car will be recovered?

is this just a random thing or do they send them out to everyone?

Don't worry, it's completely understandable that they'll want to investigate exactly what happened before paying out. I take it they've given you a replacement car?

Thats completely different in fairness (provided the OP is the registered owner of the car).

Its fairly standard practice OP.With the amount of dodgy claims that have gone through over the last 18 to 24 months its procedure more than anything.

Provided your claim is above board (as Im sure it is) you have nothing to worry about.

I think they send them out to weed out the amateur fraudsters from the genuine cases, normally if the car has an immobiliser as standard and it was robbed "without" the key they will be out straight away, also will send one out if the car was unsellable and worth more gone than sold.

The car is in my name and everything is above board and all that but I just found it a bit weird that they were sending someone out so quickly. Even the gardai were a bit confused when I asked them about it lol

'Atlantic Dawn': The car was a starter car and wouldnt have been worth anything really, Now that you say it I reckon that's why they are
    sending an investigator..

If it was that cheap, i wouldnt even bother claiming for it. The insurance hikes you will be hit with will have you reeling for the next few years. Its not worth it in the long run...

What hikes? I think since not an accident claim won't have any impact on insurance in long run?

Yes as far as I know it doesn't count as a claim and you don't lose your no claims bonus.

With Axa it doesnt count as a claim, my broker told me and I went through their policy book aswell just to be safe.

Whilst AXA may not count it as a claim, other insurance companies may count it as a claim when you attempt to move from AXA when they invariably shaft you.

See this recent thread - majority of companies will NOT penalise you for a fire or theft claim.

They are sending an investigator out to make sure that you didn't leave the car running or keys in ignition or something like that. Reasonable care needs to be taken that car was locked, keys safe etc.
