Debs dress in a very small size?

Does anyone know a shop that has debs dresses in size 4 or less? I'm usually a size 4-6, but I tried on a lot of dresses in Sligo today, but the only shop that did size 4 was TK Maxx and they were massive on me. I tried on a couple of size 8s in another shop (Simones), and the girl said they'd be able to get them taken in loads to fit me, but the dresses are very expensive, and I'm afraid that if I get them taken in that much it might ruin them, even though the girl in the shop siad it would be OK. I'm five foot five, and I really want a floor length dress, so childrens sizes are no good. I'm willing to travel anywhere in the country if there was a shop with a big selection of dresses in small sizes.

By the way, before the usual lectures start, I am and always have been perfectly healthy with a massive appetite and am just naturally this small, nothing I can do about it unfortunately. :( Beleive me, if I could put on weight and be able to wear normal size clothes, I would.

Maybe try online. You'd have a better chance of getting specialist shops there. Most sites do a lot in size US 0 (which is UK 4 I think) so you should get something you like! :)

First of all OP, don't start feeling like you have to justify your weight to anyone - you don't. If you're healthy, you are healthy - that is all that matters.

Regarding your size 4-6, I'd say you'd have no problem getting a dress up in Dublin - why don't you try up here? What kind of budget are you talking about?

If you know anyone who sews clothes and has done alterations before ask them to take in a dress for you (you'd be surprised how many of your friends' mothers might actually be experienced at this). I know you say you're worried about the dress being ruined, and rightly so, but if it's someone who isn't doing it as a job, you can go over to their house, take your time, get fitted after each alteration, talk at length about what you need done. There wont be a queue of customers they're trying to get through.

Making a dress smaller is far easier than making it bigger, it really shouldn't be too big a deal. Ask your friends if they have any alterations being done by family members or friends, and see if you can get in there too.

Thanks but my mum won't let me get a dress online, she's afraid it wouldn't fit right and the grad is only two weeks away so there mightnt be enough time to fix it

Well I'd spend up to about €300 if the dress fit right! I'd go to Dublin, but I don't know what shops are good there, I haven't been there much. But I could definitely go up this weekend, do you have any suggestions for shops?

Book a cheap hotel and stay the night so you can really take your time and enjoy the experience! You don't want to be rushing looking for something that fits and suits.

I don't know Dublin that well but others should be able to help with stores! :)

If you can't find anything, I'd definitely recommend getting a dress altered. The place I got my debs dress did it for about €15, and the fit was so much better and made it look a lot nicer.

You could look into getting a dress made for the debs? My mum made mine and it was perfect - and I was also guaranteed it was one of a kind! :)

If you take a look at some of the patterns online or in material shops, such as Hickeys, you can see if there's anything there you like, buy the pattern and material you like and get it made.

My mum made mine in about a week, so a 2-week turnaround should be possible, though you may have to pay a little more for such a quick job.

If you've found an ideal dress, then you could get somebody to alter it for you. A good person should be able to do this without ruining the dress. Chat with them beforehand, and see what they say.

Best of luck and enjoy your debs! :)

I would recommend starting with Coast on Stephens Green, BT2 Grafton Street, Lara Boutique on Dame Lane, and the "gallery floor" in arnotts, henry street has to be the best place of all. I was involved in the Dublin Rose of Tralee and had to get a few gowns there in the last few months, the selection there was amazing and a wide price range also. I hope this is some help! I would recommend staying a night though so it's not too much of a rush.

Coast sizing runs pretty big I think, I'm not sure they do everything in a 6 either. Otherwise green_dub_girl has good suggestions - I'd particularly look at BCBG Max Azria in Arnotts, they do very small sizes in that brand. There's a couple of other brands in their formal wear section.

If you'd consider vintage OP - vintage can run small - jenny vander & horse&june on Drury St might have something.
