Can silk be dyed? Perhaps not something to tried at home, are there specialist shops that dye clothes?

    Thanks!

It says here that silk can be dyed:

If the dress has any trim/thread made of different material they may come out different shades, or not take the dye at all. This has happened with a few things I've dyed eg a white vest that I dyed red ended up with pink straps and pink lace. It actually looked really nice but it would depend on the colour you use.

    Thanks E.T.

I dont think there is any trim on it and it'll be going from a light colour to black... I'll do my research and go from there.

    Ta!

This can also be a problem. I dyed a shirt from white to purple and the thread did not take the die. I ended up a deep purple shirt with really visible white thread at all seams and button holes.

A silk dress should have silk thread, but there is a risk that the thread will be visible,

As far as I remember, all natural fibres will take dye, so if there's thread and it's silk or cotton it should take.

In your case, Huskerdu, the thread must have been made from a synthetic fibre.
