I have a problem with a dell 5150 desktop. It has XP as a OS. I cant get it to open most programmes. I get the choose programme to open with ,box popping up every time.It opens Outlook Express but wont open IE. I can get into IE by clicking a link in some emails and then going to home page. I have tried to open system restore but it wont run either at start up in safe mode menu or when in normal mode in start menu. I have run AVG and SuperAntispyware but no virus showing. The day before the problem I ran a scan and I wonder if I deleted some software when clearing some minor virus or cookies.

Probably not virus related. Don't suppose you have thought about using a different browser anyway ? IE isn't up to much.

    This will shed more light

    Download OTL to your Desktop
    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files here
