Just wondering what all you boardsies here think of the Colt.

Looking for your own words and recommendations on your experiences with the car and any recommendations on it.

Hopefully looking to buy one of these soon and would appreciate any help ye have to offer.

I know there's a few threads already with these questions but alot of them are old...

Thanks in advance for any help!! :D

Great little car. Cheap, reliable, and has a bit of character!

Would you find it economical? i know a few sites quoted it doing around the 40MPG mark but i guess they can different to real time experience with actually driving the car...

Yeah, suppose around 40mpg. I just had one as a cheap runabout for a while, so it felt like I was never putting in petrol compared to my normal car.

Don't get an auto one though, they're ****e.

Had a 99 one for about 6 months, great reliable little motor however i never got 40mpg or near to it, i'd rather keep putting petrol into it than fix it though

Any idea what ye would consider a good price for one that's around the '00 reg?

I love my wee '98 Colt - I've had her for nearly three years now, put about 20,000 miles or so on her since I got her.

She's cost me very little in terms of maintenance etc really ... did the NCT a few months ago and the only thing she failed on was emissions (and the illegal plates :o ), I didn't get her serviced or anything before it so I think that was pretty good going! Got a full service done a couple of weeks ago and got all the usual bits and pieces replaced, the mechanic reckons the engine's in great condition and there's years left in her yet (she's just passed the 100,000 miles now.)

I find it to be very economic on fuel - it does tend to need the oil topped up quite regularly.

One criticism - I find that, compared to other similar cars, it's quite hard to get the speed up quickly for overtaking, especially if there's any extra weight in the car.

Overall though I love the car, very reliable and fun to drive, would definitely recommend it.

I had a '99 one as my first car. Great little thing. Very reliable, very light which in turn gives decent MPG and they're only a 1.3 so the tax is grand.
