soon to be stay at home dad needs advice!

Hi boards people! I have a quick question about benefits.

Basically my fiance has just gone back to work after maternity leave, and I am currently also employed.
We're toying with the idea of me staying home to mind baby but we dont know if we could take the hit financially.

Would anyone know what and how much benefit we would be entitled to?

My partner earns 32k a year before tax

we get 140 p/m child benefit

our rent is 900p/m

Any advice is greatly appreciated!:)

You wouldn't get anything as you would be leaving your job voluntarily to stay at home. Your fiance wouldn't be entitled to claim your tax credits either as you aren't married.

I am a stay at home dad myself for 4 years now, we were lucky we moved from the city out to the sticks to live the good life , we said goodbye to the M 50 and out with the wellies , as soon as the first one came along i packed up the job i was thinking the same as your self how would we manage on one wage, but we have 4 years on , now dont be fooled its hard work but it can be very rewarding, It works well for us as the wife has a good job that she likes and i get sat off to play some golf and go for a few pints :):)

You may get FIS but that's about it...

Its probably a good idea to get the application form and go through the questions yourself before meeting with the Welfare Officer.

He/she will also want documentation to prove whatever it is you are claiming.
