Microphone Fault

I've been having this problem for the last few weeks. When I'm making and receiving calls, I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. This happens 90% of the time, yet when I use the microphone app for recording or the VoiceControl it works grand.
Has anyone ever had this problem, or even heard of this problem?
Ant suggestions on how I could fix this?

    is this an iphone 4?
sounds like the noise cancellation mic on the top beside the headphone socket may be blocked, try cleaning it out.

If that doesn't work bring it back to apple its a common fault

Yeah it's an iPhone 4. I'll it a go and see if it works. Would this be under apple's year warranty, if it doesn't work?
