Indians pay surgeons to turn girls into boys

I read this last week, kinda surprised no one else posted it:

    From here and here's another

Madhya Pradesh state government is investigating claims that up to 300 girls were surgically turned into boys in one city after their parents paid about £2,000 each for the operations.

Women's and children's rights campaigners denounced the practice as a "social madness" that made a "mockery of women in India".

India's gender balance has already been tilted in favour of boys by female foeticide – sex selection abortions - by families who fear the high marriage costs and dowries they may have to pay. There are now seven million more boys than girls aged under six in the country.

Campaigners said the use of surgery meant that girls were no longer safe even after birth.

The row emerged after newspapers disclosed children from throughout India were being operated on by doctors in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

    Crazy stuff Ted!

I wouldn't see this as a LGBT issue, more about child abuse so might be better suited in humanities?

They're forcing their kids to become transgender / change gender... I would think T personages would have an opinion on that, but well ok perhaps humanities.

This has relevance to gender identity. A lot of people here are well read on, for example, the David Reimer case, I don't know where to begin really but this is in the right place! When those kids are older they are going to feel trans, its sickening really.

I'm actually quite shocked that the commentary of activists involved show zero understanding of the internal, individual problems this brings up, just general women's rights (where in such an area this is a symptom, not a problem, it shouldn't be cracked down on alone, the society needs the real work), and of course the physical endangerment of sending a child for unnecessary surgery, which is quite low when you stick it beside trans suicide and self harm levels, surely a greater endangerment, but anyway... I'm off to google this.

EDIT: Should have read the second link!
A parent whose child underwent such a surgery at the age of two said on the condition of anonymity, "I think my child would not be confused over his gender when he grows up and can live a normal life as he would not have any memories of the surgery."
    Gahh, bloody ignorance...

Not fair on the Kids .....Not fair on anyone

But gotta think like the mother , would you rather your child be killed because they were born a girl ? .
They need to change their society ... not their kids

They will in their arse be killed for being a girl, boys are more desirable as they earn more/cost less, and of course men are just better than women in every conceivable way and as such live a freer life.

You think as a mother, pay a dowry to see your child live as a subordinate (as you do, and more than likely have little issue with), or, pay a relatively little amount now for a surgery to see them in command and you receiving the dowry, but with the catch of cocking them up seriously for life, I mean even without the catch it doesn't make much sense tbh, this isn't a third world street urchin thing, these people can afford an unnecessary surgery.

This is just infuriating, medical professionals are doing this, what the hell is wrong with the world??

I'm not sure which country but if I'm not mistaken , in some countries girl children are killed or just thrown to the sidelines .I'm not sure whether its the parents decision or what .
Nor am I sure how any Doctor with any amount of morality could perform surgery for those reasons
