I'm planning on heading down there tomorrow, for a bit of shore diving, looks like there should be great viz and loads to see, I went to the gealthacht down there many moons ago and I remember how nice it was.

Has anyone ever dived there??? Any tips??? Any bad currents to look out for???

I have searched online about this and the general consensus seems to be that its really nice and seems safe enough.

You need to dive at slack tides as the tidal flow can be very fast either coming in or going out. Great dive site our club dive it on a regular basis. High tide tomorrow is 09:28/21:45 low tide 03:04/15:23.

Beware of sitting your gear on the beach, the coral / sand can easily get into your regs and cause all sorts of trouble. Enjoy.

Martin6651, thanks for that info, any chance you know the tide times for Thursday, because I can't figure out where you got the previous tide times as easytide.com doesn't say the same, local info is always much more trustworthy. Online it seems to say that it can be dived on any tide really once you don't go out too far to get cought in the current.

Would Killary harbour be a safer shore dive so, as I amn't familiar with the area???

Going for a dive with Scuba Dive West tomorrow and then our own dive on Thursday.

Get my tides from GBSC.ie(galway bay sailing club) and are published in local papers wed/thur. Shore diving in killary used to be good if you go out from the pier to the point on right and go right. The bottom is mainly mud.

Brilliant, thanks for your help, just home from Galway now, low tide at The Coral Beach meant I couldn't do the dive but got on great with Scuba Dive West and they were able to get me in the water no problem.

Great diving in the West as opposed to over here in Dublin, I will have to spend a lot more time over that side of the country.
