    Hey Guys,

I'd love to get into airsoft, but I'm not sure how, or what I need to do! Can anyone give me a lowdown on what I should do, or who to contact if I'm in Limerick :)

    Cheers,
    C

On a Saturday you can go to Limerick Airsoft Camp in Ballyneety & rent equipment & see if you like it (which you will lol) & every 2nd Sunday its the same in Adventure Weekend Airsoft in Broadford Clare, only 18mins from Corbally. You can contact them on the Sites section here.

short answer pick a sit and turn up.

basically pick a site close to you, arrange a rental package from them and turn up. wear a pair of boots, some old cloths and bring a sense of fun.

also bring some water and maybe munchies if you plan on staying the full day. some sites will be close enough to a shop/petrol station that you can stock up.

I'm up in dublin so cant recommend any sites close to you I'm afraid but I'm sure others can.

Why do you want to get into Airsoft? Is it the guns that appeal to you? Or is it the Military style of games? Or do you think it just looks like a bit of fun? Your reasons are crucial to what you get out of Airsoft.

For example, if you're more interested in the guns, and the military simulation, then accuracy and authenticity are absolutely vital. And as such, the recommendations change. Whereas if you don't care about the guns at all, and are only interested in the sporting aspect, then it is much easier (and vastly cheaper) to get into.

If you're just interested in the sporting aspect, then I'd strongly recommend (and echo the guys above) that you head out and rent, see what style of play you like, and then invest in a rifle.

People spend hundreds (I'm lying to protect those who's other halves read this forum, and I also like to lie to myself at how much I'm willing to spend) to get an accurate replica (key word; replica), and then spend so much more on performance. Whereas if you only care about performance, life is much easier.

Well.. Its actually a bit of all of em, I'm a bit of a gun nut - Love the millitary style of things, and the sporting aspect seems really fun! :P

As said previously, wear some old boots or failing that runners that can take a beating, baggy clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and food and water.

Your best to rent a gun for the first two or 3 games to determine if you like airsoft and also give you a idea of how you like to play. *you could be someone who likes to hang back and pick your shots or you could be the first person into the action, only way to know for sure is to play*

Once you have a idea of your playing style you can then look at getting your own gun if you'd like and that'll depend on your playing style.

i second all of the above, also you will love it. I borrowed a gun for my first game and owned my own one by the following week.

after you have sampled the game a couple of times here are a couple of things you might want to get your hands on.

    1. get an AEG depending on your budget
    2. get camo woodland works best as it blends in with most of our forests.
and a hat of some sort boonie or cap whatever floats your boat.
    3. safety glasses of course. and a face mask or just a scrim scarf, (only whimps wear face masks) though some site demand that under 18 must wear them

    4. boots that fit nice and snug and ones that are comfortable, as your feet need to be looked after.

you will build on that from then on as you play more and find what you like best.

When are you looking to start,
I'm Limerick based so if you are ever thinking of heading out you can send a PM or whatever and discuss it,
I'm aware it can be a bit intimidating showing up to a site on your own so tagging along with someone is always a good idea (even if only to find a site:))

    What you need:
    Comfy boots/runners,
Clothes you dont mind getting dirty/wet,

After that if your renting you'll get a gun and mask/eye protection,

Most folk will be happy to let you gawk at their stuff, most in fact enjoy when people fawn over their gear and you'll get all the info on the how much/ where to buy on everything from BDUs to chest rigs to WW2 signal crickets!

Welcome to the money pit, its a long way down but there's some awesome scenery on the way:D

    Ok moving on.

look at different site types that might suit you. some sites are all outdoor with structures in fields or wooded areas others are indoor CQB both are completly different from a playing perspective, or at least I think so anyway

I'd suggest boots over runners for safety reasons, some sites wont let you on without boots. Also plenty of water if you're unfit like me :o and maybe a spare set of cloths for on the way home. my first time out i jumped into what i though was a dry ditch and ended up to my knees in mud

and maybe remortgage the house coz once you start you're gonna want everything

Some people just rage about things and vent it rather than dealing with it.
I'd say best we ignore it as we don't know the full story concerning it and would just speculate about it.

XiledSniper, what BDU do you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭The Snipe

    Just standard DPM :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 718 ✭✭✭$kilkenny

    Irish
    So you own stolen property?

Any articles of the Irish Army camoflauge are illegal to own, purchase or use unless you're a member of the Irish Defence Forces.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Irish DPM is illegal to use outside of official defence forces activity, and it's an arrestable offence if you're caught. If you decide to take your chances with law, you'll also find any decent or reputable site won't allow you to so much as walk around the car park in it, so there's really no reason to use it.

i no from experience.. dont wear it...
i had a jacket(wont say where i got but i dont own it) but i went to a site one day for just a look around before i even started airsoft, wast even out of the van 5 mins and one of the marshalls came up and said you better take that off coz one of the marshalls in ex irish army..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭Salaas

I know the responses from people at the DPM sounds negative and depressing but its more a case of us wanting to save you alot of trouble both in terms of hassle and with law enforcement.

If you get camo, always make sure it is ok to have it and there are no strings attached.
And if you had it yourself, tis best to either get rid of it or return it or leave it at work or home (if you are in the Irish army)

Okay, I'll leave it it work from now on! :P
