Anyone got any ideas where they would like to see this?

FINGAL County Council's recent visit to Chengdu in China will see a formal twinning by the end of the year and could even result in the county having its very own 'Chinatown'. ONE of the more eye-catching ambitions of Fingal's future relationship with Chengdu is the idea of developing a Chinese-themed visitor attraction in the county along the lines of a Chinatown or China Street.

The idea, according to the Fingal delegation who recently visited the Chinese city is that the attraction would result from Chinese investment and would be modelled on native streetscapes in China with themed restaurants and retail outlets.

Fingal also wants to become a European promotion hub for Chinese products in the fields of electronics, health care and crafts.

Business partnerships are being developed between local and Chinese entrepreneurs in fields like concrete manufacturing, medicines, health care, IT and language training and educational exchanges are being arranged to back that up.

Finally there is the possibility of greater tourism traffic between Chengdu and Fingal through a formal twinning arrangement and a possible new air route between the two regions through Dublin Airport.

Already there is a very visible symbol of the growing relationship between Chengdu and Fingal with a Panda on a nature reserve outside the city named in honour of Fingal.

Somewhere that is already established with transport links & many empty retail/industrial units. I guess that puts Swords & Balbriggan in the running.

Just 'stretch' the boundry of Fingal to include Moore St/Parnell St area and bingo its done.

Swords Main St. has frack all left in it. Why not give it over to a Chinese street/market thingy? Better than gold shops, pizzarias, bookies and offies!

How about Swords? They are twinning us with a city of 11.5 million so FCC got to think bigger than a couple of ethnic shops to impress. The Chinese already named a Panda after us! You can;t get much better than that!:pac:

Maybe do something with the Castle Shopping centre in Swords. There's a few empty units and there's already a Chinese and ethnic food store there.

The Castle Shopping Centre is positively thriving by comparison with the Main St! That South Asian supermarket where Paul's Newsagent used to be is amazing by the way. Very cheap, and most of the ingredients you'd need for homemade curry goodness.

Chengdu Aircraft Company is also currently developing the J-20 Black Eagle stealth fighter. The company is one of the major manufacturers of Chinese Military aviation technology.
So the workforce from Team/Aer lingus/FLS could be re-employed

I would like to see this on North Street in Swords, there are loads of empty buildings there. The only place that is busy is the dole office.
