I've recently been fitted with a new upper denture and I was wondering what the best denture adhesive to use is? the dentist gave me a sample pack of "Fixodent" but the denture still feels a little loose. I know it takes a while for the gum to settle down but I was wondering if any denture wearers out there use a better / stronger adhesive?

Well fitting dentures do not require adhesive however immediate dentures (where teeth have just been removed) often do. Fixodent is OK and you can also get these sticky films that are less messy. The powder like Wernets is awful.

I find that most patients use way too much adhesive, as they believe it will adhere better. With Fixodent et al its best to use as little as possible. Also I find the best results is to place a small amount(enough to cover the top of your small finger nail) behind the front incisors and at the two back "corners"

thanks for the replies - i'll try this later on. maybe I have been putting too much on and in the wrong places. I know that in a few weeks this "temperory" denture will be coming out as soon as the gum dies down and a more permanent one will go in. Maybe these will be a better fit with the new one.
