08 Lexus IS220D central locking problem

    Hi Lads,

Has anyone experienced problems with the central locking on a Lexus IS 06-on (new model)?
When I open the drivers door, most of the time only the drivers door opens. (This should open all doors)
When I open the front passenger door most of the time only the front passenger door opens. (This should open all doors)
But the strange thing is I can lock all doors using either door by pressing the button on the door.
When I open either of the front doors I can hear the rest clicking as if they're trying to open.
Also, theres an unlock button on the door and beside the handle on the inside. The unlock button on the door wont open it from inside, but the physical lock beside the handle does.
You should know the car has the keyless entry system.

I was thinking that maybe they're stuck but its not likely that all 3 happen to be stuck is it??

My other question is, is it ok to spray WD40 into the lock on the door? The reason I ask is that the oil is conductive and could interfere with the keyless entry??

Any help would be much appreciated. I only purchased the car recently so I dont know if the locks all stopped working at the same or if the previous owner wasnt bothered because he used to spend most of the time in the car by himself.

    Thanks a million.

Get in contact with your nearest main dealer and they will expain the same. Thats why there is an unlock button on both driver and passenger doors near the EW switch.

    Thanks for the response.

I'm aware the settings can be changed so that opening either door will open all doors or just the door you open. I've changed this setting and the doors do not open.
No matter what I do, the back doors dont open. I have to reach around and open the physical lock beside the handle.
And as I said, sometimes they all open and other times I can hear them trying to open but sound stuck.

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong but are you pressing the button on the outside door handle to 'unlock' the door? That's not an unlock button - it's only to lock it when you're leaving the car! To unlock the door/s, simply walk up to door and pull the outside handle - no button pressing required! As you say, you can change settings to open one/all doors when approaching the car.

As for the rear doors not opening - are the child locks on by any chance?! (switch on edge of door).

No I'm not pressing the button on the door, I'm aware theres a sensor behind the handle that opens the door. The child locks aren't on.
I'm starting to think that mybe they're just seized and need lubricating. Because if I leave my hand behing the handle before I pull the handle, I can hear the actuators clicking in the doors as they try open the lock. Which also makes me cautious that it could burn out the motor.
Could WD40 do more harm than good? I dont want the hassle and cost of taking it into a garage if thats all they're going to end up doing

So you can open the rear doors by pulling on the inside (and outside?) handles? Sounds like the actual locking mechanism is OK. Maybe electrical problem. Not being a twat but are you 100% sure the child locks are off?

You can open the back doors if you physically open the lock beside the handle on the inside.
The child locks arent on. The fact they sometimes open is the strange thing. If the switch on the drivers door did nothing I'd think it was electrical but the fact I can hear the locks trying to open makes me think its a mechanical issue. I must check them later on and see how stiff the lock on the inside of the door to open it is, I assume that its got a direct mechanical connection to the lock. I hadnt thought to check its stiffness before.

Only the drivers door will open but if you try to open one of the back doors it will open.
If your opening the passenger door first only that will open you need to have the keys near the drivers door.
That's the way mine works, it doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with it.

I was just checking it there and the back doors dont open, just the drivers door. I also noticed that when I leave my hand on the handle the hazard lights flash 6 times, and i can hear the door locks trying to open. Then the flashing stops and the doors stop trying to open... It has me stumped.

Touching the sensor on the drivers door unlocks all doors last time I checked. No sensors on the rear doors afaik.

Does the unlock button on the fob do anything?

Apologies for the confusion. I put my hand on the sensor on the drivers door.
The fob is the same as using the sensors. Pressing it twice doesnt open all the doors like some settings require.
The more I think about it I think a call to my local lexus dealers is the only thing to do.

Hello Gymsey, did you get a resolution to this? I have a 2006 lexus IS 220d and have the same problem - the locks have all stopped working one by one over the last 6 months or so but I know exactly what you mean when you say you are hitting the button, hearing the noise and nothing happens. Very frustrating but I was interested to know if you got it resolved.

    Thanks

A family member has a 220D where the problem began in this way and eventually the whole car died in their drive.

The car could not be started and was taken away by their Lexus dealer.

A month later the car was returned with what they were told was a "new computer"

Do you know how much their 'new computer' cost them?! I had Lexus look at the car this morning (primarily to fix another issue). They advised it might be the wireless relay but not completely sure. Price of part would be £500 plus vat.

Car was repaired FOC even though out of warranty but it took at least a month to get repaired.

    08 D with only 20,000 km.

Hi guys, what I heard about this locking doors issue its actually factory settings !!! When you buy it from new you can personalise your doors settings with your Lexus dealer to open/close driver only door or all doors and you can change once only for free I heard in next 6months or so.Ibought an 08 like 6 months ago and have same issue: only driver door oopening, the others doors needs to be open manually from inside and can be annoying sometime but I found it , in time, more practical and safe especially ! I'm kind of used now and found it more practical then the other setting. Its even in the manual this option of configuration. Sadly read that 09 models with satnav can be simply canged from Menu as many times you would like....but not 08 :-(
If anyone kniws some' I don't plz share :-p

I've had a 10D for a year and half. i have the same problem since day one. Only driver door opens with remote key and or thumb recognition. I can hear the actuators too and have to lean back and open from inside when I (rarely) have passengers. It has me stumped. I get the safety element, but would prefer all doors open each time. I see the comment about younger models with Sat Nav can change it, but I've been through the menus - no joy.
Anyone got any solutions besides bringing to a dealer to give away money???

    Hi there,
Have the same issue and went to Lexus Finglas to find out that the actual doors actuators needs to be replaced.
The dealers have possibility to change the way all doors are locking or unlocking but this can be done only by the dealer with their big expensive computer so what I read by others saying that you can change settings from the car dvd entertainment display it's simply not true.
If you good in fixi g things it's a mechanical think and after you purchase the actuators from 2nd hand market you can do it yourself by removing the pannel doors. Loads of videos on YouTube to guide you .
    Hope this will help.
