reading 'behind the glass' for the second time ,

just tried the tony visconti hi hat trick of taping a mic to the top bar .
( im using a 57 as i like its dirty sound on hats )

the mic moves up and down with the top cymbal , so stays same distance away , and picks up the stick hits really nice , with a nice opening hat sound as well, and a lovely CHICK sound

i use a little wedge between the mic and rod to angle it out a bit towards the hit area instead of straight down at the top cup .
capsule is about 4- 5 inches from the stick area doing this

cable is hanging above from a stand so it doent droop down on the hats .

really kills all spills as well.

    worth a try .

i also want to split a 57 into a right angle for snare use .

just make sure to hi pass from 250 or so up to take out rumbly junk

and the mic is actually closer , more like 3 inches to 4 max to the stick area.

    still like it so far.
