FETAC Results and Certs

There have been several questions regarding the release of FETAC results and certificates so I thought I would post this to clarify the situation as I understand it.

Since FETAC offer certificate several times a year the first question you should ask is when are my assessments entered for FETAC certification ? In general in FE and PLC colleges students complete their course by May and are entered for the May/June certification period. However for private providers and FAS entry could be at any other time in the year.

There have been some changes to the FETAC process in the past year despite the fact that to the eyes of Learners and Trainers nothing seems to have changed. This has happened for both the External Examiners and External Authenticator process.

Trainers/Tutors mark the assessment material and award a grade, internal process may occur with grades meetings etc and centres then enter the grades onto the FETAC system, print out the provisional summary sheet (old N3 form), externs/authenticators visit the centre, confirm or recommend changes to the grades which may or may not be accepted by the centre (if using the EA process). The changes are made by the Principal or FETAC Co-Ordinator. Once this has happened then the FETAC system will release all results on a given date. For the May assessment period FETAC merged the electronic systems it had been using for providers and issued the results through the FETAC Business System (FBS).

The FETAC website states that Statements of Results will be available in FBS from 21 June, 2011.

This means that the results were available for the centre to print out from around 21st June (I know FETAC had some problems with its systems in May due to user overload so I would have allowed a few days from this date). The results should then have been posted out to Learners with details of how the Learners could appeal. The Learner should receive a Statement of Results with the word Provisional on it. It is just that - a statement of results and not your certificate. If you wish you may then appeal. The appeal process is now been handled by the centre i.e. they have to arrange their own Extern etc for any appeal.

The certificate (that nice looking FETAC document that you frame) will be confirmed and sent out after all the appeals etc have been completed. But your FETAC statement of results should be sufficient for employers and universities outside of Ireland. FETAC usually transfers the results file over to CAO in June/July and should there be any changes they will notify the CAO.
So if you have not received your results yet then contact the centre – ask when were you entered for certification and when the results will be issued. If you were entered in May/June ask why are your results not issued. Last year some centres were closed for the summer and this resulted in some delays. If you don’t get a satisfactory answer then contact FETAC with your details and the centre FETAC number which should be on some of the documents you received when completing the course.

    Congrats on your results,
The Learner should receive a Statement of Results with the word Provisional on it. It is just that - a statement of results and not your certificate. If you wish you may then appeal. The appeal process is now been handled by the centre i.e. they have to arrange their own Extern etc for any appeal.

The only thing that may change your grade is if you appeal and the Extern who handles the appeal decides to change the grade. In your case I doubt you will appealing.
