if you have a machine consisting of a motor and a metal framework

is the entire machine exposed conductive part or just the motor

    thanks

and if the machine is outdoors would it be good practice to bond the 'earthy' framework to the motor cpc-even if there's adequate conductivity between motor and framework through bolts

    thanks

My thoughts in situations like that would be to error on the side of caution and bond what I can.

    any more input on this?

I work for a company who manufacture automated equipment on stainless steel skids (frames) and we could have several pumps / motors bolted to the skid but we still must provide a seperate earth to the skid.

you mean a bond from the cpc

    that's what i'm wondering

i can drill and tap it -there's no tag provided

For the minimal additional cost / time required it's good practice

We normally weld a bolt onto the skid but drilling and tapping is just as good

im sure that's all it needs -connect frame to cpc

the rules says that metal which can become live because it's connected to exposed conductive parts

isn't considered an exposed conductive part

i think maybe that answers my question about the skid and the motor and which is exposed
