ps3 problems

hi, hoping someone can help me out, my ps3 just seems to have stopped working, i thought it was just the cable going from the ps3 to the tv that was the problem, but tried the cable on another ps3 and its working fine, it seems the console just wont work. nothing comes up on screen, a small bit of background noise comes up like the game loading then goes quiet, its not the tv or the scart plug as both these work fine on other consoles and the tv works grand with the same ps3 before.

i got my ps3 a few years ago, as a christmas present from my dad the first christmas after it was released over here so its the big type, but it gave me no problems before hand? im just wondering is this common or if it would still be under warranty!? it was a pricey machine and i wouldnt be able to afford to replace it any time soon!

until i get it sorted out its back to the good old ps2!

Does the light on the front of the PS3 flash yellow and then turn red?

not that i have noticed? i thought the red light was only a curse of x box!?

Yellow Light of Death on PS3.

Does your PS3 stay on... and you just can't see anything on the TV, or does it turn itself off after a second or so?

its stays on but nothing comes up on the tv! i had it in my last house last year, and put it in my parents house while i was moving house so it was put up safe for about 3 months before went to use it again and now this keeps happening! what is annoying me more is the ps2 is still flyin away and that took some abuse over the years where as the ps3 was looked after!

Hmm okay, I don't know much about audio/visual problems.

Have you tried holding down the button on the front of the PS3 for around ten seconds? You should hear it beep.
