hi guys, newbie here - been reading a fair bit, now have decided to post!

I've just gotten back on the bike and would be looking to getting into some weekend spins around Dublin.

Where is good to go? Am totally overweight and not fit but I'd be looking to build up to doing spins around howth down to dalkey etc in the short / medium term.

Also, are there groups of people heading off anywhere?

    all advice welcome!!

This may be of interest; http://www.meetup.com/Dublin-Social-Cycling-Group/

Don't know much about them other than what it says on the site, but seems like a very relaxed way of getting into cycling.

    Firstly, welcome.

After a quick glance, the link which smacl suggested looks good. You could also stick your name down on this thread and fire out some PMs. Not too sure if many of the cyclist on it could be considered 'leisure cyclists' but if getting fit and losing weight is your goal then neither should you be considering yourself as one.

    Good luck with it.

Also on Facebook, seem like a friendly bunch although haven't had a chance to meet up with them (yet).

Pick up a copy of this book: Leisure Cycling near Dublin by Hugh Halpin.

    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Leisure-Cycling-Near-Dublin-Hugh-Halpin/9780717140053

It has some great ideas for rides. Covers a lot of the East coast, Wicklow, Meath, Louth etc, not just Dublin.

We are just getting going but we do plan to organise groups for training/events.

We do have a group for the Wicklow 200/100 next year and we will be organising training spins too.
