I was only talking to someone in hd Dublin about this at the weekend. Rough idea is €1 per cc plus a little extra.

They worked out a 1600cc would cost circa 2k.

I checked vet on imports from uk which stated two euro per cc unto 350 cc thereafter it's one euro per cc. What about the states, do the same vet
rules apply? What about customs? Is that covered in vrt?

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/moving_country/moving_to_ireland/coming_to_live_in_ireland/importing_car_into_ireland.html

    €1283.

€2 per cc up to 350cc and €1 per cc after that and the bike is 883cc.

Seems not to be as cheap as buying new in Ireland. At least here you'd have the full warranty.

    Here you go click-click.

Put in the details, and it will tell you how much VRT you need to pay.

VRT is the least of the costs, you also have to pay VAT (21%) and duty for anything imported from the US.

Unless you're getting some kind of relief on the importation taxes, or the bike is of sentimental value it's generally not worth the hassle, cheaper to buy here, UK or even mainland europe.

Correct, not only do you have to pay VRT, VAT - you have to pay Duty as well, including on the freight, as you're buying outside the EU. Simply put, it'd be cheaper, here.

And, if you buy an ex-demo, or very recent bike here, it's even cheaper again. I met a lady a few month's ago you bought a 2010 for very reasonable money, from H-D in Dublin. And they do a deal on finance and insurance as well.

By my sums, to bring in one would work out approx 7200, new, here, it's 8500 list. I suspect you'd get it for just under 8k.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

My mate bought one in the US, he paid €19k for it, kept it for about 18 months and sold it for €19.5k here. Not really worth the hassle, and he had a friend over there that could deal with the shop in person and organise shipping for him.
On a side note, a hd shop in Ireland offered him 8k for the bike!

The vro will require a certificate of conformity if its a new bike.
