You would be suprised how much main dealer prices have fallen so do not dismiss them completly.

For example, we got a major service at 60,000km on 07 avensis petrol which included brake fluid change, all filters, and brake pads for the sum total of 350 from Fitzpatricks in Kildare. All toyota dealers are on a toyota led menu pricing system. I priced the same with a trusted indy and he said 400 + vat. Very happy with the service I got and the contact I got before anything was replaced.

If the parts are coming to €500 from the north then its not just a service your looking to have done.

Whats the full list of parts you want fitted?

drop us a PM if you're interested. Expecting to get a price from a local mechanic in next day so would like to see another price to compare it with.

The Toyota dealer was way off the planet with their quote

Do you mind me asking why you are replacing the Water pump, idler and tensioner .

Generally we would not replace these on the first timing belt change, its not needed as in general they will be in perfect working condition, and it is only adding expense which is not needed, but if you are willing to spend the extra money it ain't a bad thing to spend it on.

Im glad to see someone actually changing the gearbox oil, its something that is so over looked in Ireland.

If you want i can get you a price in the morning.

The timing belt kit has the idler and tensioner in it and its a case of while the belt is being done that I'm doing the others inc water pump. If i dont plan on doing the belt for another five yrs then its not worth risking to let it go that long

PM me the price if you can. Thanks

    Hey,
I got a minor part replaced in my car today, the part cost €45, labour was about €45 too, with VAT it totalled €100. This price seems excessive. Does it seem correct to you? I'm clueless when it comes to this sort of thing!
    Thanks,
    C

How long did it take? What was the part? Kind of lacking detail there :)

A button for a boot, and I don't know how long they spend replacing it. I just don't know what is the norm!

More often than not especially on cars the smaller the part & electronical the more it costs...

Buttons and switches tend to be built into plastic panels that require extensive and careful removal.

More information such as the car, the location for the button (is it on the boot or in the car) etc etc.

Button for the boot? The one that makes the light go out or a release button?

45 euro would be a cheap hours labour so I don't see anything wrong there at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,035 ✭✭✭✭-Chris-

Diagnose the problem, swing over to the motor factors to buy the part, then fit it.
Even if it was a quick fit, €45 is still a fairly low amount to charge for labour.

    Doesn't seem OTT to me.

I'm just after a visit to Nissan Doctor, and can give him a total thumbs up.

Replaced a bearing in the car, along with 4 wheel and headlight alignment.

All costing less than local Indy wanted for just fitting the bearing!!

The man knows his stuff, and is very particular/ fastidious in his work.

    Fully recommend.
