    hi all
have an elica extractor fan over hob model elibloc 3.02gr. it is vented to outside wall

i noticed a build up on grease on the filter. the filter is just wire mesh enclosed in a metal rectangle.
i went into a diy shop and was sent home with some universal hood filter to cut to size.
however the metal enclosing the mesh does not seem to open.
am i actually supposed to just wash the mesh in hot soapy water???

Yes. the metal filter is your grease filter. If it's externally vented you won't need another filter as the metal one fulfills that purpose. If it wasn't externally vented and was just recirculating air thats when you need the additional filtration. BtW it won't do any harm to fit the additional filter but it's a belt and braces approach. On our current cheap extractor the dishwasher does a creditable job on the metal filters but I suggest you check the user manual on yours before you take that approach.
