I'm hoping ye could answer a few questions! :pac:

I'm looking at getting an epilator but i want to ask a few questions before i buy one.

When waxing sometimes some hairs get broken as opposed to pulled out (ie if hair is too long), is this common with epilators? like would it be more or
    less precise than waxing?

I also believe i may have a bit of KP on one leg which is grand once i use eucerin regularly (its really a great cream!), but im assuming this isnt a problem since waxing isnt a problem with it?

    Lastly, any recommendations?

If waxing doesn't irritate your skin, epilating shouldn't either.

Broken hairs are not common with epilators, and if it does happen passing the epilator over it again should get the rest of it. It's best to use them on clean, non oily (from a moisturiser) skin. Exfoliating afterwards is the best advise I can give you - prevent dodgy bumps and patches - and then a good moisturiser. I, personally, don't find it painful (more prickly) and it's definitely not as sore as waxing. I find epilating easier than waxing and more precise, but others may disagree. Epilating can be done anywhere you can wax (if you are able to bare it!) and, like waxing, it won't get super short hairs - but if you do it regularly, the hairs grow back so fine that leaving one or two isn't an issue. If you are really paranoid, tweezing the last few hairs is easily done.

I have a Philips SatinPerfect and I find it really good. It has a big, wide head (so it can get more hair in one pass than others) and quite a few interchangeable heads/attachments.

I find epilating harder than waxing personally. I use it on my legs the odd time and on my underarms. I don't usually get broken hairs bitas lorebringer said you can go over it again.
I think my epilator is a god send for underarm hair. Keeps it gone for up to a week!

It's pretty much the same thing. I love using them, the best time I found was when you're just out of the shower because your skin is soft and loosened from the steam.

I have a Philips one which is great but I used to have a Babyliss one which was pretty good but didn't last. I'd go with a good Philips one if I were you, it might be a bit more pricey but at least you'll get your moneys worth out of it.

I use the Braun Silk Epil 7 and it is absolutely fantastic. It was expensive but it's brilliant and so worth it. The beauty of it is that you can use it wet or dry so the first few times I used it I used it in a nice warm bath and the pain was not so bad at all. It also doubles up as an electric shaver too.

Here's a youtube video of dazzledust25 an Irish makeup guru on youtube talking about it and epilation in general:

I found the epilator terrible for breaking hairs - I got awful ingrowns with mine. It was quite painful too. It wasn't worth it for me, but one of my friends swears by epilation.

    ¡arriba, arriba! ¡andale, andale!

In the late 80s, my father bought me an Epilady for Christmas. Not only was it majorly embarrassing, but it really was an instrument of torture.

Not sure why, but a few years later, having forgotten the pain, I bought a modern Braun epilator. And loved it. I'm now on my third or fourth device - this one has a light!!! And find it great, my legs are smooth & silky!
I want to get the wet & dry one next, they have improved vastly over the years.

Oh, yeah, here's a photo of the Epilady....

... not sure how I ever plucked up the courage to try again!!!

Wow the Epilday looks scary
I heard about those that pull the hairs out with a spring!

I got one about 10 years ago now and I don't know if I was doing it right or if the hair was long enough or short enough or whatever but I found it hurt a bit. In a satisfying way of course. I found it more effort than it was worth really though, but I have been thinking of trying to find it again and give it another go.

+1 for the Braun Silk-épil 7, in particular the model 7681, it's amazing. Can be used wet or dry, has a few attachment heads and comes with a trimmer/shaver which I find invaluable. Plus it has this handy light to show up all the hairs. It is on the pricey side at around €180 but Boots and Argos often have half price sales on beauty electrical type things. It's the best money I ever spent anyway. I'd get about 12 hours max after shaving before I'd start to get horrible sharp regrowth but I get weeks from the epilator. I use it under my arms too and it's great not having to worry about that 5 o' clock shadow :) Pain-wise, I never found it to be sore just maybe a little sensitive around the ankles but after a few uses I hardly felt a thing.
