Sun Creams

    Hi All,

Am heading to Florida next month and looking for some advice on some good sun creams. I'd like a separate one for my face and another for my body, as I've heard that they have less chemicals in them. Was using a garnier one yesterday on my body (the one in the white bottle) which I just found to be heavy and sticky (factor 30). I burn easy enough so good protection is very important to me.

Would love some suggestions of any brands.

I got PizBuin factor 50+ cos I'd burn on a rainy day!!
I find it lovely, had it on today to try it out. It was about 11euro in Hickeys pharmacy and I think it was buy one get one half price.
It's not greasy at all and it's really light.
for the face, there's a good Vichy one. you can get it in factor 30 or 50+. It's about 13 for 40ml. I'm still undecided as to whether to bother with a separate one for the face. The piz buin is so light I might try it and see if it's ok. I've got combination skin though so obviously anything to keep the oil down is good :)

I've used P20 in the past as well and that's good cos it lasts all day.

Currently using a Boots own brand one for the face, factor 50, and wouldn't recommend it. Can look very greasy unfortunately. I have a sample from Kiehls, also factor 50, and find that goes on much smoother.

No complaints with the Boots brand body one though, factor 30.

I have found Nivea sun cream very good (factor 40+), soaks into the skin really well and definately not as greasy as some sun creme (Ambre Solaire comes to mind - I think that is the one you were talking about OP?!). Brilliant coverage too, not a burnt shoulder yet this year! I have used the Nivea baby sun lotion in the past (for super high coverage) and it's also very good.

If you’re really worried about the chemicals this site is great, someone had it up here ages ago, can’t remember the original thread so apologies to whoever put it up first. Just a heads up if you go on the cosmetics database you may end up getting rid of half your lotions and potions, I somehow managed to buy some of the most toxic stuff available. But I digress, La Roche Pose factor 50 for face is good, soaks in fast and isn’t too greasy, I use it almost every day.

I really like clinique ones for your face, really light, wear the factor 40 all the time and it goes on very easy. City block i think its called. I feel some of the high ones are very thick. For the body I like the nivea as they are not too expensive but good.

I second clinique for your face.
I use the ambre soilare spray liquid factor 30 or 50 if you are worried about burning. The great thing about it is no horrible white marks! I wore this in Italy last summer factor 15 and didn't burn. I was in barca the summer before and nivea sun factor 15 gave me the beginnings of a tan.....usually I burn like a rasher!

I use this for my face, can be quite heavy, but its not sticky to apply.

This summer I've been using Piz Buin's all-day suncream, which I'd only actually recommend if it was on sale (Boots had a 2 for 1 deal a few weeks ago, and it's around €25), because one of them only lasted me about a week and a half (in saying that though, I'm 5'11'', so... !). As for the face, I've been using Clarins factor 30, and it's really nice! You'd barely even notice that you're wearing it, it's so lovely and light.

    Have a great time!

I'd say La Roche Posay is a good one to try. They go up to factor 50, you can get 'tinted' ones and 'mattifying' ones if you're worried about it being greasy.

oh great, i use la roche moisturisers and cleansers.

What i'm worried about for the face is the chemicals and crap and it clogging my pores up and getting majorly spotty! The least amount of chemicals the best. I just found the Garnier one i used the other day on my body to be so greasy!

I'm using La Roche Posay Anthelios Extreme fluid 50+ and it's great.
No pore clogging at all and I used it abroad for 10 days recently in strong sun exposure and was never even a little red. It goes on really light and works well under my Bare Minerals.

If you're worried about the chemical filters maybe you could look into the more old fashioned sunblocks. They use minerals that physically block the rays using titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. They sit on the skin instead of sinking down.

That youtube video describes physical sunblocks.
