    hi all,

i am heading back home to ireland soon for the first time in nearly 2 years, put my old irish sim card into my phone to see if it still worked and it didnt pick up a signal.
just off the phone from meteor there and it turns out if you dont turn on your phone for a year they delete your number, only chance to get it back is by opening a business account with them where they may give you a requested number.

its understandable them deleting the account but i think its a pi$$ poor effort on their part not reactivating the number, i wont be going to a meteor shop for a new sim when i land in dublin.

i wouldnt mind but i had a great, easy to remember number, which i have had for years (it came with a phone with an extendable arial ).

so kids, wear sunscreen and turn on your phone every now and again to keep your number alive!!

Not just turn on your phone, but you need to spend credit. Then at least yearly, maybe 6 monthly you need to top-up.

I used to work for them and I turned of those un used numbers. They had to due to comreg rules for all networks after x months of no use. Its a good tip but you assumed the number was yours forever that is your mistake.

From working in O2 I can say that this is the case with them also.
They need to recycle the numbers if they are not used for a certain length of time. You should top up and make a call or even send a text every so ofter just to keep it "active"
Once it's been put into recycling there's no way of getting it back - or at least that's the way it was with O2.
