    Hi Jaykay86

Can you give a bit of background on what you will be using it for - i.e. will you be hiking with it? Travelling to hot and cold countries? What countries and for how long should be a good start.

Oh - and have you gone in any shop to try some on and get a feel for them?

I have a Deuter one. They're fantastic. I do think you should be careful of the cheaper ones. I used a cheap one my brother had gotten previously going around Europe. Man did that thing rip easily. My Deuter one has never caused me any bother.

Also, a tip, if you're bringing a laptop DO NOT get one with an air vent at the back

    http://onedata.deuter.com/img/backsystem/2874_ACfutura.jpg

It causes the bag to curve and with a laptop makes packing frustrating.

(PS, if someone knows how to get around this, I'd love to know!)

this is one i was looking at

    http://www.foxsoutdoor.co.uk/packs-and-duffles/large-travel-packs/lowe-alpine-travel-trekker-ii-70/

am i mad to pay that kinda money or is that the norm price for a good rucksack

this is the one that was abit cheaper

    http://www.foxsoutdoor.co.uk/packs-and-duffles/large-travel-packs/lowe-alpine-tt-tour-70/

i think one thing i suggest/want is a rucksack that opens like a suitcase as it would be really handy rather than top loading

I really don't think that you need to spend a fortune on a bag with air vents etc for travel - they are great if you are going hiking but I find that when I travel the bag isn't on my back for that long.

I have heard nothing but good things from travellers who use the large perimeter zips for opening the rucksack rather then the top loading one (that I have). I would spend a few more euros on a bag with that feature is I was buying a rucksack soon.

Hey, I'm also going interrailing in a few weeks and need a good bag. I've been told not to overestimate so something like a 40L bag should do. The bags in that link look pretty good but there's different types. The first 45L one looks like it'll suit me.

Also, anyone else have other recommendations before I get one?

Well i ill just say the KESTRA bag is just as good as any main stream bags but 1/2 the price!! which in my mind makes it hard to beat :D

OP, hope you don't mind me asking a question about a bag here too?

I'm also looking for a good back to see me through a RTW trip (India,Asia,NZ). I've been looking at this North Face bag but not sure:

    http://eu.thenorthface.com/tnf-eu-en/equipment/travel/base-camp-duffel-l-8.html?colour=630

The reason I like it is due to the compact nature of it. It also has shoulder straps too. I was advised to get a reasonably small bag so that I could keep it with me at all times instead of it going under a bus/train etc.

How did this bag work out for you? Going travelling Asia next month and then onto Australia! Had looked at this bag in shops but am undecided whether I should just buy the North Face? Would prefer to save my money and by this bag if it worked out OK for you?

I got a berghaus bag last year for a safari in Africa. It is 'suitcase' style opening, rather than top loading. You don't want a top loading one for travelling as you'll constantly be pulling everything out to get to the thing you want that's at the bottom of the bag. The attachable day packs are great but make sure the large backpack also has clips on the shoulder straps so that you can clip the daypack and wear it on your front while carrying the large pack. You'll be surprised how often you actually carry it in this way. Make sure you can unclip it easily too as mine is a bit tricky on one side. Seperate areas in the large pack are also good for seperating wet or dirty gear or keeping things like your toiletries easily accesible. Other than those things i think it comes down to style, fit, colour and price really!
