I see Halfords are doing their 3 for 2 offer on car cleaning products which also applies to Autogym HD Wax. I'm off to buy some tomorrow and will buy 3 for €121 if anyone wants in on the deal, I'll keep 1 for myself and you can have 1 of the others for €40. Just add a reply here and send me a PM with contact details if you're interested.

I'm not making any money on this, just saving myself and you a few euro on the purchase price. You'll need to collect it from my house in Dublin 16 within the next few days.

If you have an AXA plus card you can get 15% off on top of this too. Good deal.

    Hi, see PM!

For those if you that don't have an AXA card (or a mate with one), then here's a link to print a 10% off voucher for Halfords:

With the Axa card & using the 3 for 2 offer it means the EBay price & Halfrauds are the same. Also you can be sure that Halfords product is genuine. It's only €2 difference with the 10% discount voucher. And no waiting!

I think you can be sure with over 165k transactions and a 99.2% feedback rating that the eBay HD wax is genuine also, but i get what you are saying.

The HD stuff is great wax also definitely the best i ever used.

I've earmarked 1 for Idbatterim, if we get another to take the 3rd I'll get them tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks rebel.ranter for the Halfords voucher link, if they take it it'll make the price €36, although they've gotten much fussier about vouchers lately, but I'd say that one is OK. I'm sure the ebay seller is fine but I'd prefer mine in the next few days rather than waiting.

Planning on going about 3pm today if we have a 3rd!

    I use simonez hard wax:

This stuff seems pretty expensive..what would be the benefits over the stuff I currently use?

Aaargh I was robbed! Paid 60 Euro for the HD Wax in box at the RDS motorbike show a few months back - on the Autoglym stand and described as a once-off deal, and there it is on eBay for 25 Stg.

    €60 is RRP.

You'd be better off getting the clay kit, cleanser and wax then getting 3 waxes and flogging 2 them. Most of the shine will come from the clay & cleanser.

Unless of course, you have other similar products to prepare the car for the wax.

Still waiting on a 3rd so I'll wait until tomorrow before going to Halfords.

What's your opinion of this as opposed to something like concours 50/50, dodo juice purple haze, poorboys entry level wax etc seperate? Is it a good wax?

The wax creates the "shine", the clay and cleanser clean the paintwork of contaminents in it. A decent polish to remove light scratches is probably needed too truth be told on the vast majority of cars.

Autoglym HD is a great wax but there is better out there, some of the swissvax products are fantastic , had the Supra waxed with swissvax @ http://www.eliteautoclean.com/ and I was very very impressed by the durability of the wax.

Something like Autoglym super resin polish is reasonable for the money, chemical guys do a decent range of car cleaning products too.

A site I know a lot of lads use is cleancar.ie and it's very good value for most stuff too.

An old pic of HD wax on a metallic black car,i used to only wax with the HD twice a year and after that a good wash and then using some final touch would bring it back to this shine every time.

I have that stuff. I tried it once on a bit of paint and my arm nearly fell off trying to buff it off!:D I think i've a collection of waxes at the moment that i never use expect Meguiars.

That's beautiful, worth the expense I'd say, both phisically and money wise. I used turtle wax 'wax it wet' the last time I washed the car. The water still beads on her after 2 weeks.

I was going to get some AHD wax but would prefer to use a machine polisher to get the desired results.

2 weeks? a good wax should bead water for months.hence i only ever needed to use HD wax twice a year.Im no pro but i wouldn't rate turtle wax, then again i wouldn't rate many other autoglym (chalky-glym) products either as most of them are crap.

It's decent enough, yeah. Quite easy to use and lasts reasonably well.

If you're going to buy a wax for €60, buy Swissvax Onyx. It's in a completely different league in every way possible.

I sell the Swissvax to Ian. He's a good guy. Was yours the black supra he had in last week? Unusual car.

    The wax doesn't add the shine. For example, here's a picture of a bonnet from an XKR I did weekend before last;

    img0380py.jpg

There's no wax on that, it's just been polished. The 'shine' is 95% in the preparation, ie, the period before waxing. The wax will give the paint a subtle glossy nuance, but it's mostly for protection.

If you put a wax on a car that the paint hasn't been properly cleaned (clayed & cleansed), it won't have much (or any) effect.

True i should add that i used auto smart tardis tar remover, washed the car with the 2 bucket method and then clayed the car before applying a coat of HD wax in the pic above.

I have been using 'Mers' polish & wax products for years and have tried a few other brands but I always came back to the Mers stuff.

I never tried Meguiars though! Maybe I'm missing out in great things?

No mate , I know the car well though, chap that owns it is a mate of mine. Unfortunately I'm living in Cork so only got to Ian once with the Supra.

Great guy glad the business is going well for him then again the amount of hours and prep the guy puts in is unbelievable.

when does this 3 for 2 offer finish ?

    update:
was in store and asked at checkout, they didn't know when the end date for the offer is, but said that it will probably go on for all of summer

You can actually get it on amazon for €35 delivered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭fmul9798

The 3 for 2 is long over, but I was wondering if anyone had a reliable source for the HD wax which is reasonably priced?
    I am looking to buy
    Autoglym HD wax
    Autoglym clay kit
    Autoglym HD cleanser

the Amazon sources have all jumped to about 13 pounds for delivery from what I can see, and I am wary of the eBay option due to potential fake products.

    Thanks,

I can only speak for their shampoo, but it's absolutely amazing stuff. The finish it put on my car was (to me, at least) astounding.
