We're going to the Liverpool v Newcastle game on New Years Eve ,Going 30th back 1st. Ryanair dont fly on the 1st and flights with them were €720 and it meant staying an extra night. Aer lingus were €382 to Manchester but we didnt mind that so we booked thinking it was good compared to Ryanair , now its only €282. Its booked now but I'm raging.
Just hard luck I suppose , its a chance you take.

It doesnt make it any less annoying to know I could have an extra €100 in my pocket.

We've done the boat and coach package trips twice and its sooo long travelling and I swore I'd never do it again but never thought of the train instead of the coach.

Why do that to yourself? I try to avoid checking flight prices after I've booked as much as possible.
