Anybody know what it is? Looking for a single room for 2 people.

    For when?

Obviously if it's a 'spur of the moment' thing [ ;) ], it will be pricier, but the more advance notice you book with, the cheaper it will be.

If it has to be city center, or more suburban will also impact price.

    Does quality/ amenities matter?

You'll get double en suite rooms in some hostels (like CitiHostel, Generator hostel) for 12-15e per person, but as an earlier respondent said, the further you book in advance the better. Use a consolidator site like hotels.com to see best rates. Here is the result for a random Tuesday in October in Dublin, offering dozens of rooms for 2 people for less than 50e.

I highly recommend the Russell Court Hotel on Harcourt Street, just off Stephens Green.
On selected nights they do rooms (single, double or twin) for just €50 including breakfast.
I've stayed there a couple of times.
