    Hi
I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit OS.

Virus software is Microsoft ForePoint End Point Protection 2010 Version 2.0.2337.0 with
    Anti Malware Enginer Version 1.1.7000.0
    Antivirus Definition Version 1.107.950.0
    Antispyware Definition Version 1.107.950.0

I Have updated the definitions with connected to internet to ensure got
most up to date Definition Versions

Windows Update is telling me i have Windows 7 SP1 update to install

However when i try to install Windows 7 SP1 update via Windows Update
it starts with install, creates a restore point and starts installing
the update but after while get alert message telling me that Update
cannot be installed with the message
    Service Pack installation cannot continue

Software installed on the computer isnt compatible with the service pack. Click the link for more information

After the problem is resolved, restart the installation

Microsoft security essentials -your version of this program may prevent successful installation of rhis service pack

    Go online for details
In the dialog there is ithe link = Go online for more details and when clicked on takes me to -
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/why-am-i-receiving-a-
    message-about-microsoft-security-essentials-or-microsoft-forefront-
    client-security-when-installing-a-service-pack
and seems to indiate that the problem lies with my Microsoft Security
Essentials - which i dont have on my Machine. It does not appear in listing of installed programs in control panal

I have ForePoint End Point Protection though and it is also referenced
in this link above. THis says to check if Update 2394433 is insalled
    in Installed Updates

I do this and it does not seem to be installed. Went to Microsoft
downlaod center and downloaded the update both the 32 and 64 bit
    versions
But when i try to install it the installation starts but it fails
telling me it failed and to check a log file

When i check the log file at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront
\Client Security\Client\Logs\mp_ambits.log it has lot of info in it but
the following seems to be relevant information where it says

MSI (s) (EC:54) [20:37:17:010]: Product: Microsoft Forefront Client
Security Antimalware Service -- A newer version of the product is
    already installed on this system.
Action ended 20:37:17: LaunchConditions. Return value 3.
Action ended 20:37:17: INSTALL. Return value 3.
    MSI (s) (EC:54) [20:37:17:010]: Note: 1: 1708
MSI (s) (EC:54) [20:37:17:010]: Product: Microsoft Forefront Client

Security Antimalware Service -- Installation failed.
MSI (s) (EC:54) [20:37:17:010]: Windows Installer installed the
    product. Product Name

Anyone ever seeen this or got tToughts re wheat problem might be here
    and how to solve it
    Thanks

Remove Forepoint? Install SP1 then install Security Essentials instead? Also Windows Defender will deal with the malware?

I would suggest to remove Forepoint before installing SP1. Also make sure you are an administrator.

On a side note, I worked in IT support for a few years and I swear these anti-virus packages are not worth it - McAfee, Norton etc... You are better off with AVG or Spybot. Less hassle and you're not being ripped off.
