    Need help....i recently purchased a satellite combo unit(ferguson arriva 200) http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/info_Ferguson_Ariva200_Combo.html which allows satillete/terrestrial on the one unit...i conected it all up,only one scart lead connection at back of sat combo unit which i connected to tv +hdmi cable...works fine.....but how do i connect up my targa 5100x dvd/combo(built in hard drive) unit so i can record from sat combo unit??
    i have tried connecting my arriva satellite combo box directly to dvd /combo with a scart lead and then another scart lead from dvd/combo to tv...but it still will not let me record on the on dvd/combo hard drive...anyone any ideas??
    any help would be appreciated....

    thanks dermot

    From what I have read, most (if not all) STBs which can record to external units require those HDDs to be connected via USB.

    I didn't get the info for your device -- the link failed ;)

    EDIT:

    I think I may have misunderstood :( ...... you want to send the signal from the STB to the recorder rather than use the STB to record?

    yes johnboy.....i want to send the signal from the STB to the dvd combo which has a built in hard drive to record programmes...

    Edit: Sorry just re read . Unless I'm misunderstanding you should connect the hdmi to the tv and the scart into the recorder , then another scart from the recorder to the tv so you can watch what you have recorded.

    Check out the scart output of the box ...... is it still active while using the HDMI cable? ...... maybe temporarily connect one TV to the scart as well as another to the HDMI?

    Its a fair point but I've just tested and both outputs are active at the same time.

    DVBT <=> DVR <=> TV

    Switch on tv and make sure you can see something playing from the DVD/DVR

    Press stop and then turn on the DVBT, you may have to change the channel on the DVD/DVR to av or scart in, at this time the DVBT channel should appear on the tv tgrough the DVR input

    Press record on the DVR

    <=> means scart lead, dont bother using hdmi while setting it up!

    Scart lead from Ferguson to Box. Follow the targa instructions.

    http://www.service.targa.co.uk/antworten.php?lang_id=2&faqid=2097&artid=703&artdesc=Targa+DRH-5100x&artpic=DRH-5100x_Teaser460.jpg&faqquest=%3Cb%3EStarting%3A%3C%2Fb%3E+Recording+from+an+external+source+using++Videoplus.&func1=2&func2=1&func3=1&baseid=123&serial=

    To be honest you can buy a small hard drive for €50 which just connects to the USB on the ferguson. Would be less pain....
