silver medalist or fastest loser

Hey all, I received my results for my level 5 course the other day and intend to proceed to level 8 through the links.

The problem is I've no idea if my results are good enough to warrant getting my hopes up. Taking the mandatory modules into account I received 7 distinctions and a merit. Now I'm well aware that on paper this seems like a good result but if a course has 3 places reserved is there a high probability that I will get pipped at the post by people with 8 distinctions?

I'm not trying sound arrogant or anything but I couldn't stand putting in a year of hard work only to fall just short in a "silver medalist / fastest loser" scenario.

so what do you think? should I open the bubbly or start looking at some other options
