Trailer Licence

    I have recently passed my driving test (april 2010) and am now interesting in acquiring a licence that allows me to drive a trailer greater than what the normal driving licence allows.

    I've been looking around for the last while and I've become rather confused about what I actually have to do.

    Do I need to pass another test in order to be able to drive a trailer legally, or can I just send away my current licence for upgrading?

    Would be great if you could pass on some info, or where/what I have to apply to!!

    Thanks :D

    You will have to do another test to gain the trailer licence.

    Try the RSA website. Ask any driving instructor.
    You have a "B" licence. You now need to add "EB" to it by doing the trailer test.

    Have a look at this thread;

    Its straightforward to do, but there's only a small number of driving schools providing lessons if you require them. One in Naas i know of. Other than that apply for provisional and wait 6 months before you can sit the test.

    Thanks for clearing that up guys. Is the test tough or pretty easy to pass seeing as very few attempt it?

    Test is pretty easy in fairness. Mine consisted of 20 minutes driving around Naas, One reverse around a corner and back to the centre. What the tester I had wad watching for was progress and confidence on the road. They can tell after a few minutes if you can handle a trailer.

    Just to note - test must be done in a van or 4x4 with a trailer bigger than 8ft x 4ft. Closed box trailer required for vehicles after 04 the. Flat is ok for older vehicles.

    actually, is there driving lessons available for this licence?

    Yes, but limited amount of places doing them, check for driving schools that do HGV lessons, they might do trailer lessons. Naas school of motoring do lessons. But might not be close for you.
