I want to head off to salou for week in the second week in September.
    Just have a few questions.
How easy is it to visit Barcelona from Salou?..Can it be done as a day trip?
    Salou, any experiences?
Will there be much sun at time of the year? or much cooler?
How easy is it to go on a package from Friday to Friday as opposed to Saturday/Sunday to Saturday/Sunday.
Also, who should i book through..Tried budget and quoted close to 600 for one person for that week.
It seems steep, is it likely to come down before then?

    1. Yes - get the train
    2. It's a beach resort with a great beach - loads of English type "Brit Breakfast" places but go 2/3 streets back from the seafront & you'll find proper Catalan places to eat.
    3. Enough sun for me (cos I hate the searing heat of July & August)
    4. Check the tour operators schedules
    5. Budget tend to be the cheapest, but SHOP AROUND!
    6. Depends on how you define steep - €400 for a week is average brochure price, anything less is a bonus, but check out the accom before you book

p.s. if you're planning a solo trip, then do it independently - either flight only on a charter, or get Ryanair to Girona & arrange your own accommodation. Packages are not priced with solo travellers in mind (I used to work in a tour operator & know this for a fact)

Ryanair fly to Reus-Salou too. Girona is the other side of Barcelona.

Its a Universal Studios theme park and its called Port Aventura. Its great craic.

Quiet easy to get to Barca from Salou. Trains are quiet regular and a hell of a lot cheaper than trains here in Ireland. Its only about an hour (max) on the train from Barca to Salou. Loads to see and do there so you wouldnt get the whole of the city done in one day.

Me and a group of 8 stayed in the Pins Marina II. Would be perfect for what you have described as you have a car. Also right on the beachfront with a couple of pubs and shops very close. Only downside is the train tracks are right beside the apartments but other than that I would say it's very suitable for you.

We stayed in Sol Costa Daurada

Was perfect for us. Few minutes (maybe 10) walk from the theme park and the characters come to the hotel at certain times too. Think it was about a 10 minute stroll to the "center" from there aswell. Was very handy.

edit: I thought you said you wouldn't have a car so maybe you could find somewhere cheaper a bit further out :)

Hi cap salou and la pineada are approx a 10 min drive from the theme park and are quieter nicer areas imho. When are you going and if you dont mind me asking what is your budget, there are good deals to be had out of season.
Have a look at the thompsons uk web site for hotels only they give a fairly good description, I have used them and so far had no problem. We are going in oct to see the theme park during the halloween season. We have booked to stay in the portaventura hotel, it cost 1600e for a family of 5, sounds a lot but that is half board direct access to theme park, so no need to hire a car as we will use the excellent bus service on the couple of day trips we will go on. Also unlimited access to the theme park is included in this price. There is a lot to do in the theme park, shows rides playgrounds and the water park so dont limit your self to just one day there. To get more ideas on where maybe the best place for you have a look at http://www.tripadvisor.ie/ShowForum-g562814-i9698-Salou_Costa_Dorada_Catalonia.html you should get plenty of info here. Enjoy your trip.

Hi seanie, you can book family rooms that sleep up to 6 people on thompsons uk site, these rooms are limited and can be hard got!! They also do interconnecting rooms for approx same price. Now they are really expensive in july and august but out of season they are affordable. We have paid £1477 sterling for a week half board in october for family room approx 1650e. Flights were booked through ryan air 600e saving us 1000e on falcons prices!!!
When you are doing a search on thompsons you may have to try lots of different dates before you find an available family room, but when you do find one available for a particular week it will then give you the option of other available dates, I hope this makes sense! At the moment there are dates available in october try the 4th and then look at what else is available in earlier months! If you are looking for interconnecting rooms then do a search for 2 rooms again I think these are available on 4th oct. I have trawled through loads of booking sites over the years and thompsons are the one where I can find either of these room types.

we stayed in the H10 Mediterranean village in cap salou, it met our needs and caters for 6 in a room. It was soem time ago that we stayed there always said we would go back but haven't managed it yet, portaventura is for the over 10's not much there for under 6's, they can still have a good time though. roller coaster is fab, i was still vibrating after getting off.

voted 9th out of 110 hotels in salou http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Hotels-g562814-Salou_Costa_Dorada_Catalonia-Hotels.html

Ended up booking a hotel in Cambrills that looks nice ,cost 1200 for 8 nights though but think that was an ok price for august !! Got a great deal on the tickets from attraction tix as i googled dicount tickets and got a voucher that gave 10 % off the rates so got 3 adult and 2 kids tickets for 7 days for 305 sterling which i worked out to be 60 euros than irish compeditors , this offer only valid till end of august but im sure they will have good ones coming up for halloween!!!

no matter where you stay in salou you are not too far from portaventura - and the wally tourist train runs there too so you don't have to walk or get a taxi

Hi has anyone any contacts for any apartment rentals in the Costa Dorada, I went to Alicante last few times and there are a lot of Irish people out there running property management / rentals and do airport pick ups. just wondering if there is anything similar from Reus.
