    Hi,
I'm thinking of getting an iPad, question about the 3G version, how does it work with 3G ? is it connected to your mobile subscription ?

    or is it separate ?

From here http://www.apple.com/ipad/3g/ it seems it's a separate billing deal.

Do a quick search, this question is asked hundreds of times a week.

However, your right its separate. You get a MicroSIM from any provider, pop it in and away you go. However if you have an iPhone or similar, you can tether it and use any included allowance in your bill.
