    hi there

i have a 99 Audi A6 1.9 tdi and it drives like a dream. no problesm whatsoever besides servicing. i do little mileage but now im moving to a new job with a 55-60 mile per day round commute. does anyone know if this model audi gets good mpg? would it get 50?

im in two minds whether i should keep it or sell up and buy a pruis or focus 1.6 tdi with the very cheap car tax. the tax on the audi is 590

    any advice welcomed

What's the cost of changing cars going to be? You won't get much for a 99 anything and you can buy a lot of tax for the price difference esp if you are buying new.

Keep it. If it's still going fine it's pointless to change.

So you plan on spending €10k+ to save €400 a year on motor tax? That means you should benefiting from it in a decade or so.

I'd stay with the A6. The 1.9TDi is well known for its fuel economy. You'd easily get 40-50MPG out of it depending on how you drive.

it has 130k on the clock now, are they known for doing over 200k?

I always kinda liked that generation A6, less so its successors. What you proposed in your first post makes no real financial sense for the reasons outlined by others and I think you know it. I'd just keep it, maintain it and drive on till it dies. The engine should be good for 200k and if it isn't, well then that'll be your cue to change.

Id say you have the ideal car for doing the kind of mileage you are now doing. The car has little value so as long as it is running efficiently, you wont do any better really. Comfortable too.
Anything on the new tax system will cost much more than the tax saving on depreciation.

Yes and well over it. You might have to put money into it at some stage nut if it's a good car keep it.
