If you go to a boxing club and dont expect to spar or fight then they wont look at you. They will put you around the bags etc but if you want to get fit you have to get hit! :D

Speak to David Haye, I'm sure he'll have plenty of advice on non-contact stuff :D

Thats not exactly true, my club train lads who just want real boxing without the sparring, 50% of adults in club have no interest in fighting.

some spar for the craic others dont

Whatever happend boxercise,it was all the rage in boxing gyms in london about 15 years ago,the trainers were making a nice little sideline in it.

Sparring without contact? Like tag rugby?

You could spar lightly, and make sure that you and your partner are trusting and know how easy or hard you can go.

That stupid david Haye program with the stars was calling him sparring when he was doing pads probably to blame.

Sparring is punching people and been punched like a fight but more controlled, pads is pads and not sparring.

    You dont want to spar.

That's pad work, not sparring, sparring has nothing to do with hitting pads

They are not trying to be boxing classes. Boxercise classes are designed to cater for both men and women, of all levels of fitness and ability to enjoy the benifits of boxing training/ circuit training/ aerobic excercises in a variety of different excercise routines.

No it does'nt, same as tae bo maybe

i have boxed for many years and coached and taught Boxercise, its Tae bo in a circut style-the students dont learn any techniqe and most teachers of it are just aerobic instructors.

I wouldn't generate near the intensity of boxing training. I see your point, and yes, for pure begineers it may be useful.

Boxing, like many other athletic sports, has progressed and changed and improved over the years. Yes, it still retains the hardcore basics, but thru the years new methods and techniqus have been added. It's all part of progression and improvement.

So back to the ops question. Is there anywhere to train without competing in Dublin. I'm happy to train and spar but I don't want to enter competitions, well not for at least a year. I Used to box when I was a teenager ( I'm in my mid 20s now ) and I've started warming up on the bag before gym work, my technique is gone to sh*te which was something I was proud of as a kid.

Anyone got any suggestions ? Preferably not boxercise, I actually want to hit something and learn ( again ) how to avoid getting hit.
