sounds like your just looking for trouble when someone is just trying to help the community

to answer your question, i doubt they are breaking any laws

No I have a genuine concern for the safety of my dog as well as other animals and people that come into contact with it, weed killer kills both people and animals , Their intentions good or not have no bearing on the effects of the poison

Please tell me this is a joke- have you nothing or no one else in your life to concern yourself with? You are questioning the legality of someone volunteering their time to make your town a better place and all you care about is your bloody dog. The same dog that given half a chance will root in a bin for rotten food or will eat their own sh1te

I am questioning the legality of some one spreading poison that could potentially kill a child with out so much as a warning sign I hardly think that is helping anyone, and fyi dogs do not eat rotten food unless starving and they do not eat their own faeces unless they have been neglected

i think the op raises a valid point. If you spray a toxic substance you should at least have signs down. Especially if the are isn't cordoned off. Children or animals could ingest it very easily. It could also be an offence under Endangerment under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act
13.—(1) A person shall be guilty of an offence who intentionally or recklessly engages in conduct which creates a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another.

    (2) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable—

    (a) on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £1,500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both, or

    (b) on conviction on indictment, to a fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years or to both.

However I disagree with the ops knowledge of canines. Dogs eat feces when they lack potassium not when they are neglected.

But surely ignoring animals, people wouldnt just start eating weed/plants, specially ones that have appeared to be sprayed with an unknown substance

i think common sense prevails here

in relation to animals, i dont have any pets atm, but when i had a cat and dog, neither one had an urge to eat the plants that are sprayed in a chemical that would surely be unpleasant to them

I'm thinking more along the lines of a child who drops something and picks it up. And there are plenty of weedkillers that aren't visible but still highly toxic.

in the bushes, amongst the weeds, covered in dirt and all sorts...

i think the best thing to do if it does bother you, is ask the person to perhaps let people know, and use an organic or less harmfull weed killer, but dont think about taking action against someone doing only good in his eyes

The solution OP is put a volunteer on each end of the path and make them stay there for hours until it's deemed safe ;)
After all, the volunteers are happy to work for your area while you stand back and do nothing

Or maybe, join the Tidy Towns yourself and you can do this work if you know a better way.

There are such things as non-toxic weed killers...this boards.ie is exploding with knobjockeys like you. Get off your hole and go pull the weeds if you're that worried about it.

just because it is toxic does not mean it tastes bad, as for eating it toxins don’t need to be eaten they can pass threw the skin especially the skin of children and the elderly

It doesn't bother me. I'm not the OP.

The solution is to put up a sign and maybe cone off the area.

I'm sure there are such things. Do you know that is what they are using? A relatively small amount of weed killer could easily kill a child.

EDIT: Having looked at the first page of your post history I can see that you enjoy being abusive so I won't be rising to your bait.
