Bike recommendation

    Hi all,

I am hoping to avail of the bike to work scheme in the next few weeks and I'm looking for recommendations.

A few years ago I lived in Switzerland and I used to do a lot of downhill racing, with my previous two bikes being a Kona Stab and a Norco Team DH, so I know my way around decent bikes and decent components,

However due to injury and temporary relocation to a very cold country I haven’t owned a bike in 3 years, a situation I want to rectify.
So I’m currently looking to get a decent cross country bike, most likely hard tail, with my budget being €1000 (before the bike to work savings kick in, i.e. a list price of €1000 or less).

I’ve borrowed a friends Trek 6300 a few times and I liked it. However, despite assurances from this friend, I have been unable to find this bike in any shop in the country that I’ve called into within my budget. However I have seen the same bike vary in price by €200 to €400 euro, so maybe I’m just looking in the wrong place. Also I’m perfectly happy to get an older model (i.e. I don’t give a damn if it is a 2011 model or not).

My work place limits me to buying from one of the shops listed here: http://www.biketowork.ie/bike-shops/, but as most of them have fairly terrible websites and as I don’t have time to ring up or call to each shop individually it seems difficult to get the best deal.

So, after all that waffling, my questions boil down to this:
    1. Does anybody know of one of the shops in the above list that has a Trek 6300 for sale for less than €1000
    2. Or do you have any recommendation of a similarly spec’d, similarly performing bike within my price range (also available from one of the above shops)?

    Cheers,
    Kev
