Golf Grips

    Hey,

Want to get thicker grips, apparently you can just add a load of tape underneath and it does the trick.

Does anyone know a golf shop/club where they will take existing grips off with a compressor, add tape and put them back on?

The clubs are pretty new so don't need new grips/want to spend cash on new grips.

    Cheers

The majority of pro shops should be able to do it.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I checked with American Golf, McGuirks and Elm Park, none of them do it.

They can put new grips on alright but can't reuse the existing ones because they take them off with a stanley blade......

I've only used them a half dozen times so don't need new grips or want to fork out the cash for new ones.

It would be cheaper to hire out a compressor and do it myself but would rather get it done in a golf shop.

    Cheers

You don't need a compresor to remove grips. Get a syringe and needle and use petrol. Just pierce the grip with the needle and syringe in petrol. This will free up the grip and it can be removed. Then use double sided tape and build up the shaft to the thickness you require. Pour a little petrol on the tape and then slide the grip back on, adjust it and allow 12 hours to dry.

I tried this once - I found it very very difficult to syringe in liquid where there isn't actually a space to receive it. It's also not even that easy to do it from the bottom of the grip.

Also, not sure how well the compressor method will work when the grips are stuck on with double-sided tape. I always thought that the grips put on using the compressor were put on without any double sided tape underneath - not speaking from experience on this one obviously so happy to be re-informed.
