Need to hire a car for a couple of weeks soon. The last time I did this I booked one from Budget on the internet then when I went down there they charged me an 'Internet booking fee'. Needed the car then and there otherwise I would have told them where to put their fee. Don't want to end up with the same bullshít again so would appreciate your recommendations.

How much was the 'Internet booking fee' the last time?

i hired from enterprise.ie several times last year, excellent.

on a recent search their prices seem to have reduced from last year.:)

I'd recommend enterprise also used them a few months ago. No hidden fees and a pretty good price.

It's a few years back so I wouldn't swear but I remember not being too happy about it, maybe 20 or 30 quid. Can't remember exactly though. Not sure if they even still try to pull this crap. At the time there was nothing about it on the website so I'd imagine it would have been false advertising at least. I'd love to know if they ever got pulled up on it.

Whatever you do, don't delay doing it.

There seems to be a big shortage of cars to cover the summer bookings this year.

In my experience, it's always worth booking with a decent company when it comes to hire cars. I tend to only use Hertz or Avis and I've never had an issue.

I did use Enterprise once when I was involved in an accident and the other party's insurance company arranged a hire car for me. Found them decent at that time.

A good tip (during peak season) is to book a smaller car than you would like. Odds will be that they are all gone, and you will get a free upgrade. Worked for me loads of times.

Don't complain if the car you booked is available, though....

You can always ask for an upgrade, will cost you a bit more but that's the risk you take.

    would also recommend Enterprise.

I have an insignia booked for September with them for 15Euro a day. Sure at that price you cant go wrong!

They have an extra insurance to reduce the excess from 700 and also take a deposit of 250 euro in advance which is refunded on returning the car but thats about the only things to note with them. Well, that and they work only normal office hours and are closed on Holidays so for some people that might be an issue.

anyhow, Myself and the mrs have rented nearly a dozen times with them and never had a problem.

Enterprise.but I recommend reading the 'small print' as there's sometimes some extra charges with all companies

Good idea, though in this case I need the space so I can't do it. Though if I can just upgrade on the day it's worth a try.

Hos much was the extra insurance as I cannot see any price on their website.
    * Total Charges include Damage Waiver (including Theft Protection), Third Party Liability, Road Fund Licence, and VAT. Additional surcharges may apply.
    Included Protection Products

Damage Waiver including Theft Protection (DW) - Excess may apply

ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR PROVIDES DAMAGE WAIVER (DW) IN ITS RENTAL CONTRACT THROUGHOUT IRELAND. DW REDUCES THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH DAMAGE AND/OR THEFT OF THE ENTERPRISE VEHICLE, SUBJECT TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE RENTAL AGREEMENT. DAMAGE AND THEFT RESPONSIBILITY FOR IRELAND IS THE FULL VALUE OF THE VEHICLE.

    Doesn't say now much here.

Indeed they do. I see Budget have now got a 30 quid airport collection fee in the small print. Seems like their 'Internet booking fee' has morphed into this.

Excess Damage Waiver (or whatever specific companies call it) is usually around €14 - €17 a day (or was when I was quoted a few weeks ago).

Most companies have an Airport surcharge as it costs a fortune to have a desk in the airport and they have to make that back somehow.

If you aren't collecting at a silly time, book to pick up from a city centre location - most hire companies have them. Enterprise's main office is the Long Mile Road / Naas Road junction so easy to get to on the LUAS, but they do have other offices dotted around the place.

Enterprise will deliver from all but their airport office. You don't even have to get the Luas.
