I have a BMW 316 E46 with a timing Chain rather than belt. There are 111,000 miles on it --does the Chain need changing /mainteance??
Also have warning light on Dash about Exhaust emissions--any ideas??

Chains are supposed to be for the life of the engine so unless you are hearing nasty noises it should be fine....

The vanos units have been known to sometimes give up the ghost though..

Emissions issue could be down to a number of things, dodgy O2 sensors, MAF, leaking vacumn hoses etc... Try getting the error codes read to see if that clears up what the culprit might be...

Now that is a great site! Does anyone know of similar type sites for say, Ford or Peugeot? :)

You have to pay for them unless you are registered with them. Thats the good thing about this BMW one, its free.
