Now I know she was a well respected journalist and I don't mean to dismurch her good name, but the movie stinks.

For one thing kate Blanchett's irish accent is woeful absolutely atrocious, why couldn't they give the role to an irish actress?

The scene with colin farrell  what was that all about? added nothing to the movie.

And the ending with the traveller kid singing the Fields of Athenry in the background, was cringeworthy & mawkish.

If they made it as a TV drama I think it would have worked, but as a motion picture targeting an international audience it was always destined to fail, not many people know of her outside of Ireland anyway.

(having said that Ciaran Hinds was excellent as John Traynor)

I loved this film. The way they linked up the start to the ending worked so well even though we all knew what was going to happen

I bought the soundtrack, Track 5 The Killing is superb and pretty haunting

I agree the Colin Farrell cameo was pointless

One part I didn't like was the voiceover for the funeral
"Everyone in the Republic of Ireland remembers where they were when they heard Veronica Guerin was murdered on the Naas Road"

Eh no, and that's a pretty cringeful thing to say.

    Here's track five anyway

The funny bit is that when VG the movie got released no-one in Ireland gave it a bad review. It's only 8 years later that people are finally criticising this movie!

I can only assume that this thread was started because it was on the tele the other night.

Not me!! :P Seriously, not a good film at all, whether it was accurate or not I can't say but the film basically made it look like she recklessly put her career before her family's safety and more or less got what she asked for!

This was "When the Sky Falls". Although based on the life of Veronica Guerin - Joan Allens fictional character is given the name Sinead Hamilton.

One thing I did pick up on for accuracy was Martin Cahill's murder, even The General didn't get that right.

I thought Blanchett was fine given what she had to work with. What the film really needed was a better director.

Years since I saw it, but I remember a dull, by-the-numbers biopic. I thought Blanchett was good, and otherwise that it was unbelievably cliché-ridden sentimental nonsense. The low point for me was the scene where she is montaged kicking a football against a wall.

yes, you had to go with the grain as regards this film it was seen as blasphemy to even mildly criticise it
