    Hello,

Im not sure where to post this thread, so please redirect if there is a more suitable ter forum.
I have a 3 month old male kid which I am getting butchered. I would like to try and make a goatskin rug from his hide and have tried researching in my local library and also on the internet on how to cure the hide, but am still unsure how to proceed.

Does anyone here have any experience on curing a goatskin, or advice on how to proceed?

I imagine the Hunting forum may be better than Farming & Forestry for this question.

Goat skin or any skin curing takes hours of curing and work.
Salt and Alum salt are the main ingredients that you have to rub in.
Remove all fat and meat as this is what smells.

a spoon and a big jar of Elbow Grease is required :D

There are a number of methods available to you. The natural way would be to braintan, use soap or eggs. Lots of work and patience involved no matter what method. The other route is using chemicals. Could I recommend a a book called "Deerskins into Buckskins" 2nd edition by Matt Richards. This is the natural method and applies to all types of hides.
