Horse Manure

I'm taking out a part of a lawn to make flower beds.

I',ve removed the a good bit with the turf and so now had been thinking out filling up the beds with something like horse manure as I think the soil needs a good kick of nutrients while its bare.

Ouestion is for some reason I've it in my head that you have to leave the manure for a few months before planting as it may burn some roots, if so how long do I leave it for and any suggestions on place to get it on the southside and roughly the cost?
