PS3 leveling up system?

Can someone explain how I can check my PS3 level? I know that your level increases after acquiring trophies but is it increased offline (obtaining trophies in-game) or only online?

I had no idea this existed. I only came across it a few mins ago after reading comments on a Eurogamer article. I knew the PS3 had trophies but I only ever thought the 360 had a leveling up system ala gamerscore. A whole new world has been opened for me, ha!

Theres no leveling up for offline users only online, to check online just click on your psn name, or just leave it highlighted for a sec and your current lvl will appear.

What are the advantages to this 'leveling up'?

Other than the presumably lovely warm feeling you get.

Damn, I was hoping it was offline. So, what's the point of trophies offline then if they don't affect your level? I don't know about you but I found it really satisfying to see my 360 gamerscore increase as I played through games...gives that sense of achievement I suppose.

You can earn trophies playing offline. Your level will increase when you go online and synch the trophies.
