    HI guys,

Ill be starting second year English this september and was just wondering if anyone has books for the following modules that they wanna sell on, can they contact me. cheers :)

    EN265 Studies in Renaissance Literature
EN291 Studies in Critical Theory and Practice
    EN576 Studies in Medieval Drama
    EN288 Specialist Studies

Also, any tips on how to survive appreciated. I didnt find the academic side of first year english very hard, but the amount of reading did become overwhelming at times. Do the assignments get hugely harder?

    Thanks for any tips!

To be honest, I didn't actually buy any of the texts when I was in 2nd year, but the majority of people do. I actually pulled a fast one and downloaded the texts as I needed them from the internet, and I never had any trouble in English in my 3 years. The English books tend to be very expensive from what I remember.

As for surviving second year, make sure you get your choice for seminar subject in as quick as you can. In first semester, I was straddled with Shakepeare's Comedies, which was an interest course, but the instructor was absolutely useless. In second semester I did Film and Shakespeare, which was the 2nd best class I had in my years in college (only beaten by Children's Fiction in final year with Coraline Dupay). You can imagine how happy all my housemates were when I told them that I had to watch '10 Things I Hate About You' for my assignment for Film and Shakespeare!!

Hey can you tell me what exactly the books are and I'll have a look to see if I have any?
If memory serves the only text needed for Critical Theory and Practice is the course reader which you can get from the secretariat once it's printed.

Hey there, unfortunately I do not, have you heard of Charlie Byrnes? The godsend to every English Student.

I don't want to put you off your courses either but from what I remember Critical Theory and Practice it is the tougher of the subjects and wasn't the most fascinating! But if you're satisfied with your choice or you've gotten good reviews from other students don't mind me, each to their own and all that!

I don't think you can do both EN288 and EN291, according to the website:
