Have one week off unpaid

Hi, I was unemployed but got a 3 month contract for the summer, I was hoping to suspend my SW but was told I had to completely cancel it (apparantly if its more than 4 weeks now you must cancel it) which was fine. The issue is where the contract is, the plant shuts down for a week so this week will be unpaid.
The pay isnt the best in the first place so Im put in a tight spot if I was to get nothing at all for that week. Is it possible to make a claim for a week? Must I completely sign back on?

Any help would be great, I wont get a chance to contact them until the week off has actually arrived.

Yes you can, if you are available for work, and are not being paid or tied to commitments in your current position. You will have to go to the office on your first day that you don't work, and should bring a letter from your employer re: the shutdown.
