    Hi Guys,

    Just wondering if anyone can give me a definite answer as I can't seem to get one from the college or my local tax office!
    I completed a Masters in August 2010, the course was a year long and I paid €6300 for it. I paid it myself, got no grant etc etc I'm just ensure if I can apply for tax relief on these fees (up to the €5000) because it's almost a year since I finished!? Is there a time limit on applying?
    I didn't know you could even apply for tax relief on fees and I need it to pay my fees for the coming year!:pac:

    If it an approved course, you can claim relief. If it was an Irish masters, it is probably approved.

    Did you pay tax last year as you only get relief against tax paid (you dont just get a refund of a % of what you paid - a lot of people think this is the case when they hear about tax relief for college fees).

    The max relief is €1,000 which is 20% of 5K. To get the €1,000, you would have had to pay €1,000 in paye. If you paid no tax, you get no relief

    Thanks for the replies! I didn't know it was dependent on whether or not you've paid tax through work so thanks for that!Luckily I have paid quite a bit of tax so hopefully I'll get something! I'm just going to send off the form and hope for the best :D

    I've been trying to find out if I can claim tax relief on an upcoming undergraduate course I want to do through a U.K university (part-time,distance) and haven't had much joy.

    From what I've been able to find out so far....

    Approved Colleges for the purpose of the tuition fees tax relief include:

    A college or institution of higher education in any other EU Member State providing distance education in this State, which provides courses approved for the Higher Education Grants Scheme (this includes the Open University);

    The revenue haven't confirmed if the study I'm planning to undertake would be covered under this, all they've sent me is a copy/paste of the above, I've contacted dept of education to try and confirm, am I going the wrong way about it or can anyone point me in the right direction? I found a full list of all courses in Ireland (part-time, full-time, undergrad and postgrad) where tax relief is available but I've been unable to find a list of UK/E.U courses that would be... :(
